Thomas Rance has had an active career since 1985. Tom is Principal Percussion with the Modesto Symphony, Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, and Sacramento Opera. He has also held Principal positions with the West Bay Opera and Fremont/Newark Philharmonic. Tom also plays with the Sacramento Philharmonic and the Sacramento Ballet. In addition to these groups he has also played with theater companies and continues to perform in numerous California Musical Theater productions.

He began playing the drums at the age of 10. Eventually his love for playing the drums led him to branch out and explore the joys of playing in band and orchestras. He attended the University of Iowa where he studied percussion from the internationally renowned Steven Schick and acclaimed jazz vibraphonist Thomas Davis. After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education he moved to California to study percussion with Anthony Cirone at San Jose State University.
